The school is committed to supporting children and young people with SEN and/or disabilities and works alongside professionals at Access to Education to ensure best outcomes for this group.
The Resource Base opened in October 2014 to support the needs of a small group of children with an EHCP and a diagnosis of Autism.
Children access a place in the Resource Base following a referral from SENAR. We consider all referrals on an individual basis looking at whether we can meet the individual child’s needs in isolation and whether we can do this with the current cohort of children we have.
The criteria for entry into our Autism Resource Base are:
Child must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
Child must have a formal diagnosis of autism
Child should be able to access the mainstream school and do some integration with mainstream pupils
The admittance of the child must be compatible with the education of the other pupils currently in our Resource Base
Pupils in our Resource Base follow an adapted National Curriculum and lessons are taught at pupils pace and delivered in small groups with a higher ratio of adult support compared to our mainstream classes.
It is our mission to help our Resource Base pupils progress not only academically but socially too and we do this through a range of teaching strategies and interventions.
