Why?

At Hollywood School, we believe that music is an essential part of every child’s education. Music is a fun and exciting way for children to learn and express themselves. Our lessons help to develop creativity, self-expression and enjoyment whilst supporting other skills such as listening, concentration and confidence. Through a wide range of activities children develop their understanding and appreciation of different styles and cultures. Our aim is to encourage children to enjoy music, build their skills progressively and to achieve their full potential as confident and expressive musicians. 

What?

• We follow the scheme Sing Up, which ranges from Reception to Year 6 

• Children learn a wide range of songs that are specifically arranged to widen their musical knowledge

• We are taking part in a project with the LICP. This project has a strong focus on composition in the music curriculum, allowing children the opportunity to use their imagination to create their own pieces

• Through the LICP, Birmingham City University (BCU) are undertaking their own research on composition in the music curriculum, with some of our classes, alongside the project 

• In our school, children use music to celebrate different festivals and occasions
