Geography
A high quality Geography curriculum helps children to make sense of the world around them. It starts by grounding them in their local area, which builds a strong sense of place and ownership. From there, it sparks a natural curiosity to explore other places, cultures, and environments.
Our skills-based curriculum helps children develop critical skills. It teaches children how to read maps, collect and analyse data, and understand how human and physical features interact. Ultimately, it helps them appreciate our interconnected world, fostering respect and kindness for our diverse planet and the people who live on it.
A knowledge-rich and diverse geography curriculum which covers the National Curriculum content through the understanding of substantive concepts of space and place; scale and connection; physical and human; environment and sustainability; and culture and diversity.
Equip children with the skills needed in order to work like a geographer through the disciplinary skills of enquiry and questioning; fieldwork and data collection; map and globe skills; and analysis and communication.
Children learn to interpret sources and data, helping them critically analyse and interpret maps, atlases, globes, photographs.
Make geography real and exciting by focusing on local studies (fieldwork) in Birmingham and surrounding area, which helps children connect with their city's geographical and cultural aspects and see how it compares and contrasts with other areas of the West Midlands, the UK, Europe and the wider world.
