Mathematics
Our maths teaching isn't just about learning numbers and calculations. It's about helping children understand the world around them by making connections and persevering to solve problems, which prepares them for their future. Mathematical concepts are not just abstract ideas; they are tools for understanding and navigating everyday situations, from managing money to analysing information. We want children to be curious, think logically, and enjoy finding answers, which are important skills for everything they do.
Our long term plans (guided by White Rose and the 2020 Maths Guidance) follow clear progression in line with the national curriculum expectations for each year group.
A progressive small step approach to embedding skills needed to apply to problem solving and reasoning.
Teaching and learning covers a breadth of questions covering the curriculum strands: fluency, problem solving and reasoning.
Deliver lessons with high expectations whereby no ceiling is placed on learning because we believe every child can succeed and be a mathematician. This is supported by the ‘Teaching for Mastery’ approach.
Teachers with a secure understanding of key concepts and how these can be taught through concrete, pictorial and abstract approaches.
Work books which follow the school Presentation Policy and demonstrate progress of place value; calculations; measurement ; geometry; fractions and statistics.
