Reading

At Hollywood, we hold the belief that literacy lies at the core of our educational mission. In addition to nurturing children's reading skills, it is imperative that we instil in them a genuine passion for reading. To accomplish this, we have incorporated dedicated "Drop Everything Everyboy Read" (DEER) sessions for students from Year One and above, and we have also integrated a culture of reading for pleasure within our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) settings.

Throughout each term, we place a strong emphasis on the exploration of a particular author's work, with the aim of providing children with a rich reservoir of literary knowledge and exposure to a variety of books.

Our commitment extends beyond merely teaching children to read; it encompasses fostering a deep-seated desire to engage with literature. To this end, we continuously enhance our curriculum to align with this objective, in conjunction with our phonics instruction.
