EYFS

Intent:

In Hollywood Reception, our mission is to create an environment where every child feels safe and nurtured. We're dedicated to providing a space where they feel not only respected and heard but also encouraged to collaborate, share, and form positive relationships with their peers and adults.

We strive for all Reception students to depart with a strong foundation for ongoing learning, equipped with qualities such as resilience, confidence, curiosity, and independence. We instill in them the belief that each individual is unique, fostering respect for differences and an understanding that everyone learns at their own pace, with their unique strengths.

We build strong connections between families, children, and the school, fostering a holistic approach to supporting each child's educational journey.

Implementation:

At Hollywood, we integrate the characteristics of effective teaching and learning across all seven learning domains, empowering children to develop the skills essential for lifelong learning.

Creating a language-rich environment is fundamental to our approach, nurturing children's language development through valued and encouraged interactions among adults and peers. Effective communication forms the cornerstone of all learning domains.

Our curriculum guidance in Reception draws inspiration from development matters document, Jigsaw and RE Discovery, but also by the interests and feedback of the children themselves. In mathematics, we align with the NCETM guidance, enhanced by opportunities within the environment for students to practice and improve their mathematical abilities.

Every week we have a chosen nursery rhyme that the children learn. The benefits of this are huge and include, but are not limited to, helping the children develop their phonemic awareness, improving their memory and supporting their understanding of rhyme and rhythm. Alongside this each half term, we immerse our students in the works of a chosen author, delving into a variety of their books and learning about their lives. This ensures that our children engage with a diverse range of high-quality texts, fostering an early love for reading.

We implement Talk 4 Writing from Reception onwards, aiming to develop our students' ability to read and write in various styles and for diverse purposes. Our approach follows a structured pattern of imitation, innovation, and invention in each unit of work. We employ the Little Wandle phonics scheme to teach phonics and reading to our children.

We recognise the immense value of outdoor learning for young children. Our daily access to a stimulating outdoor space offers the children a wide range of opportunities to learn, enriching their educational journey.

At Hollywood, the wellbeing of our students is a top priority, and this commitment extends to Reception. We emphasise not only their academic development and progress but also their social and emotional growth, fostering a holistic approach to education.
